Applications are now open for the 2026 Australia Awards Africa Scholarship Program. These prestigious international scholarships, funded by the Australian Government, aim to nurture the next generation of global leaders from developing countries. Through academic study and research, awardees gain the skills and knowledge to foster change and strengthen people-to-people connections with Australia. Candidates are evaluated based on their professional and personal attributes, academic capabilities, and potential to positively impact inclusive development in eligible nations.

Level of Study

The scholarships provide citizens of eligible African countries the opportunity to pursue postgraduate qualifications at an Australian tertiary institution. Priority fields of study include:

• Agriculture and food security
• Climate change
• Foreign policy and international security
• Gender, disability, and social inclusion
• Mining and energy

Eligibility Requirements

In addition to meeting general eligibility criteria, candidates from eligible African countries must satisfy the following conditions:

• Be at least 25 years old by February 1, 2026
• Have a minimum of 5 years of postgraduate work experience in a field related to their area of study
• Be employed at the time of application
• Be a citizen of one of the eligible African countries and apply from their country of citizenship, unless employed by an African Regional Organization or on diplomatic mission for their home country
• Not hold or be pursuing a Master's degree or equivalent
• Possess an undergraduate degree equivalent to an Australian undergraduate degree
• Not have previously received a long-term Australia Award

Achieve a minimum English language proficiency score of 6.5 in IELTS, with no band less than 6.0 (or equivalent scores in TOEFL or PTE Academic, valid as of January 1, 2025). Native English speakers educated in English are exempt.

Application Process

Applications for the 2026 intake are to be submitted online via OASIS through the Australia Awards Africa website. All essential supporting documents must be uploaded during the application process.
